On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, a visit was organized to a place which has contributed and served as center of India’s struggle for freedom which is Mani Bhavan where Gandhi lived and worked during the time he stayed in Bombay. The students of St. Teresa's Institute of Education visited Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya, Mumbai, on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 9.30 am. Mani Bhavan, is a two-storied building, which served for about seventeen eventful years as the nerve center in Bombay for Gandhi's activities. It has housed Mahatma Gandhi frequently during the times when he grew in stature and strength, from an agitator to a world figure by successfully introducing Satyagraha.
Today, Mani Bhavan is a memorial of our great leader Mahatma Gandhi, as he stayed there and to the activities that he initiated from there. The Mani Bhavan ashram consist of library on ground floor which contains books written by him, about freedom struggle and many more. The first floor of the building depicts pictures of various events of Gandhi's life. The second floor has a room where Gandhi worked with his charkha. There were also letters which Gandhi had written to various people and some of his other belongings. This floor also has a series of model structures that shows different stages of Gandhi’s life right from his birth, his travels when he left for his education, his return, freedom struggle, till his death.
The students of STIE were overjoyed and astonished after looking at minute details of information, photos and things which Gandhi used at that time. The simplicity of his life made way in the heart of each and every student. Many of the students were discussing about the event recalling all the events that they learned from history textbook as their previous knowledge. Even teachers discussed about various events and ignited the knowledge of their students. The smile and enthusiasm on the faces of everyone showed the interest and love they have for the country. The event ended by creating lots of memories from Ashram in the form of photographs and carrying these memories in their hearts and cherishing it forever in their lives.
