Tech Fluent Teachers Course

St. Teresa’s Institute of Education conducted the Tech Fluent Teachers (TFT) course sessions from 11th July,2022 to 22nd September,2022. TFT is a 30 hour Certificate course carrying 3 credits aimed at helping student-teachers become aware of the plethora of educational apps and software available to them to make teaching-learning a fun-filled and interactive experience. Its objective is to orient and train teacher trainees in the use of technology in the classrooms.

The course was meticulously planned by the course coordinators- Dr.Cindrella D’Mello and Dr.Giselle D’souza. The Principal of our college Dr. Sr. Tanuja Waghmare provided us with the opportunity to learn from the best resource persons possible. The 15 sessions were conducted by 7 resource persons. 4 sessions were held in the multipurpose hall of the college, 8 in the computer lab and 3 were conducted online. Educandy is a website and an app that can help you rapidly create short, interactive learning activities. Educandy Studio allows teachers to create interactive learning games in minutes.

Quizizz is a learning platform that uses gamification to make content immersive and engaging. The software is used in class, group assignments, pre-test review, formative assessments and pop quizzes.

Prezi is a software that uses motion, zoom and spatial technology to impactful and interactive presentations.

Padlet is a free online tool that can be best described as an online notice board. It can be used by students and teachers to post notes on a common page.

Jamboard is a digital interactive whiteboard developed by Google. It enhances classroom participation by allowing students to virtually portray their learning and thinking.

Canva is a graphic design platform, used to create graphics, presentations, posters, documents and other visual content.

EdPuzzle is a video editing app that allows teachers and students to create interactive online videos by embedding questions, audios, or comments on a video

Book Creator is a tool that allows educators and their students to create multimedia ebooks based off of class assignments and topics. Teachers can even add videos, images, audios and maps.

LearningApps.org is a versatile tool for learners and teachers who want to use or create a variety of different activities to practice languages or chapters using formats like crossword, match the pairs, etc.

Google Forms is a survey administration software. The app allows users to create and edit surveys online while collaborating with other users in real-time. Teachers can use it to take tests for students.

H5P is an abbreviation for HTML5 Package. H5P allows users to create, share and reuse interactive content. It enables educators to create content such as interactive videos, quizzes and presentations.

ThingLink is an education technology platform that makes it easy to augment images, videos, and virtual tours with additional information and links. Teachers and students use ThingLink for creating accessible, visual learning experiences by adding hotspot to visual media.

Flippity is a free website that allows users to turn Google spreadsheets into interactive digital manipulatives, activities, and tools. Teachers can use Flippity for a variety of purposes: to present to the class, to assess individual students, or to have students make their own creations.

Wordwall is a software that creates engaging and interactive activities that connect to boards and mobile devices to aid pupil progress.

The students were given assignments for each application that was taught to them. The final date of submission of all the assignments was 30th September. The resource persons who conducted the various sessiosn guided the students with examples of how they could be used in the teaching of different subjects. They also shared the positive responses and experiences expressed about their classes by their students on the use of these apps .

Access to learning opportunities today is unprecedented in scope thanks to technology! With each passing day the use of technology in the field of education is increasing. The TFT course has achieved its objective of empowering student teachers to excel in a digital world. It would enable teacher trainees to use technology to make their classes interactive and interesting. It would also serve to ensure that the teachers of the future would be able to confidently extend opportunities for communication and collaboration in the process of teaching and learning for their students.
