Internet safety or online safety or cyber safety or E-Safety is trying to be safe on the internet and is the act of maximizing a user's awareness of personal safety and security risks to private information and property associated with using the internet, and the self-protection from computer crime.
On 9th September, 2021 a workshop was organized by our respected principal Dr Sr Tanuja Waghmare and Ma’am Joan. Theme of this workshop was ‘Being safe in the cyber space’, that was conducted by our chief guest ‘Dr Sheetal Zalte’. She has been working in the field of teacher education for 19 years and currently working as a faculty in Smt. Kapila Khandvala College of Education. This workshop was conducted for 2 hours from 11am to 1pm.
Objective of this workshop was to make students aware of cybercrime and in what all ways in can harm us. She not only informed us about cybercrime, threats and all those terms what we have at least heard of but also new ways to protect us from surfing the malicious websites, using unknown applications and even corrupted file in our device that we are unaware of. This was the one more step towards being safe.
Ma’am started with ‘Need for safety’ by asking some questions, to which students participated well. Then she proceed to some details that ‘What hacker wants from us? , Types of cybercrime, consequences, Types of malware.
Malware can be Spyware, Adware, Ransom ware, Virus and Scare ware, and with all these way hacker extort money or steal assets from organization and it is important to be aware of how website hacking techniques work.
There were many questions that were asked by ma’am and students were very active and curious to know more from her. She then taught us, how Data is pawned and how we can check with our data. She informed us about many websites through which we can protect our data, check whether the particular website is safe or not, how we can apply double security in our mail ids like VirusTotal, Two factor/ Multi factor Authenticity, SSL security certificates, tempmails (temp-mail.org) and Hash check the file- cryptographic Hash, HashCalc- Hash, CRC, HMAC calculator.
