We students of F.Y.B.Ed, St. Teresa’s Institute of Education attended the session. The webinar was attended by over 300 participants on day 1 (27th April,2022). This virtual series was designed to provide a general insight into the history of the Holocaust, with a focus on Yad Vashem's educational approach of how to pass on these lessons of human tragedy.
The session began at 12.00 pm with welcoming by Kshama Thomas, professor of The Wilson. Dr. Deutsch, Yad Vashem gave us a brief introduction about Yad Vashem. Yad Vashem’s International School for Holocaust Studies (ISHS), established in 1993, focuses upon – and excels in – providing quality Holocaust education to diverse audiences from Israel and across the world. In order to achieve this, the ISHS trains educators to teach the Holocaust, develops pedagogic and didactic tools to be utilized by teachers, and conducts educational workshops for youth and soldiers from Israel and abroad.
Followed by Dr. Noa Mkayton, Director, Overseas Education and Training Department spoke the Educational Approach of Yad Vashem. The lecture unfolded the educational approach of Yad Vasher, focusing on the meaning of the Jewish perspective when teaching about the Holocaust. It provided general guidelines for approaching the Holocaust as a human tragedy. The floor was open for questions which were addressed by her at the end of the session. And this lecture ended by 1:30pm.
Another lecture started at 1:30pm which focused on The Testimony of Rena Quint. Rena Quint is a Holocaust survivor from Poland. After her parents and brothers were murdered by the German Nazis, Rena was sheltered by other 'mothers' in the concentration camps and afterwards. Finally, she was adopted by Jacob and Leah Globe in the United States. Today she lives in Israel. The lecture was winded up at 3:00pm after the questions were addressed by the speaker.
