Driven by a passion to empower student-teachers to be responsible agents of change in an ever- changing world, Professor Dr. Giselle Ann D’souza has served at St. Teresa’s Institute of Education, Santacruz (W) from July 1999 to date. For her outstanding contributions in the field of Education she was honored with the ‘Best Teacher Educator Award – 2019’ – Western Region by the National Council of Teacher Education, a Statutory Body of the Government of India.

Her academic credentials include the M.Sc. M.A. M.Ed and Ph.D. degrees with NET and SET qualifications. With zeal to hone her skills in counseling, she pursued a specialized counseling course in the Robert Carkhuff Model of Counseling conducted by the Institute of Human Technology, Heart to Heart Counseling Centre, India. With a vast expertise in the discipline of Education, she teaches various subjects of the revised B.Ed. curriculum including Assessment for Learning, Childhood and Growing Up, Environment Education, Pedagogy of School Subject- Science and Understanding the Self. Prior to the modified B.Ed. curriculum, Dr. D’Souza has taught Educational Evaluation, Communication Modes and Guidance and Counseling for 15 years. As part of the M. A. Degree (by papers) in Education conducted by IDOL, University of Mumbai, she has been teaching Educational Psychology and Guidance and Counseling. She has also served as visiting faculty for the M.Ed. and PGDME courses at the Department of Education, University of Mumbai.

She has been an awardee of the National Merit Scholarship by the University of Mumbai and the Teacher Fellowship by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. She is a recognized Post Graduate teacher of the University of Mumbai for the M.Ed. and is also a lecturer for the M. A. Degree (by papers) in Education conducted by IDOL, University of Mumbai. Dr. D’souza has been a part of several syllabus revision committees as well as a paper setter and moderator at the Centralized Assessment Program of the University.

Stressed!....But Not Out'-Helping Students Realize the Power of Self is her first publication based on the findings of her Ph.D. study in the area of Stress in students in relation to their personality correlates. She has organized training sessions on ‘Stress Management’ for students, teachers, parents and administrators in schools and colleges across the city. A number of her research endeavors in the area of student stress, creative teaching strategies, parenting styles and the self-concept of adolescents have made their way to journals of National and International repute. Her areas of expertise include Stress Management, Transactional Analysis, Addressing the Needs of Adolescents, Principles of Effective Teaching, Developing Interpersonal & Communication Skills and Organizational Behavior.

As a member of the faculty she has been the coordinator for the NAAC Peer Team visit in 2016 when the college was re-accredited with an A grade and a CGPA of 3.27. She has designed the ISI, EXCEL, IDEA, RIPPLE, BRIDGE and ECO models for curricular and co-curricular transactions. She has also drafted the Green Policy Documents (Energy, Waste and Water Management) for the Institution. In her tenure as lecturer, she has conceptualized and organised the All-Mumbai Inter-school/Inter-collegiate Environment festival Planit-E, initiated the Annual Big-5 CCE Symposium, Make a Difference Week Celebrations and the Flagship Super Teacher Empowerment Program-a credit based Certificate Course. She has also spearheaded projects like the Go-Green with Tetra Pak Campaign in collaboration with RUR and the Save Water-Safe- Water Initiative in association with SOSVA which have met with laudable success. Under her able guidance, S.T.I.E. collaborated with eArth Samvarta Foundation (eSF) and KDC Tek Private Limited for the PhoneShaala Project which helped underprivileged children continue learning through a toll free call during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the several Green Endeavors spearheaded by her, the first ever Green Audit of the Institution, the Tree Landscaping Inventory of the Campus, the Organic Composting Project for Wet Waste Management and the 4 Bin Approach for Dry Waste Management have been successful under her able leadership. She envisioned and directed the Tree Landscaping Inventory titled ‘पेड़ Promotion’ of the campus along with the Science Club of the College to mark the Golden Jubilee Year Celebrations. For these and all the Green Initiatives introduced by her, RUR Green Life Private Limited awarded her with the ‘Go Green Excellence Award’ in 2021. Her passion for environmental conservation gained momentum when she launched ‘PROJECT PRIME’ (Plastic Recycling Initiative for Managing the Environment- ‘Bottling the Blues’). She has also been honored with the ‘Unaided Schools’ Forum of Maharashtra Award 2023’ for her excellent, dedicated and continuous contribution towards the noble cause of Education and the ‘The Best Innovative Faculty Award 2024’ on December 29, 2024 by the All-India Association for Christian Higher Education, New Delhi, India. This recognition underscores her remarkable impact and commitment to advancing academic excellence. It places on record her outstanding Educational Leadership, Creativity, Innovation, Valuable Contribution to Research and Professional Ethics.
